Aerojet Rocketdyne anticipates a need for Senior/Specialist Engineers to join our Product and Component Engineering team at our Sacramento, CA site (additional opportunities also available at our Canoga Park, CA site).

The Project Engineer will plan and perform propulsion program tasks in conjunction with program management. Under limited general direction, you will implement design and analysis tasks, special studies, experiments, and hardware/test requirements. Additionally, you will coordinate performance, thermal, and structural analyses, as well as perform test planning, post-test examination, analyses, and reporting. You should also have the ability to successfully:

  • Provide imaginative, thorough, and practicable solutions to a wide range of technical problems involving the conventional utilization of engineering techniques.

  • Conceive and plan projects involving the development of new methods to attain objectives.

  • Provide direction in problem investigations and resolution across functional areas.

  • Lead investigation activity if sufficient experience in investigation of tools and procedures has been demonstrated.

  • Prepare technical and design requirements in support of project goals.

  • Keep current in relevant technologies and methods in support of project assignments.

  • May provide technical guidance to less senior project engineers and project support personnel.

  • May be assigned Cost Account Management duties.

  • May perform as the engineering cost account manager.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under limited general direction, the Engineer determines approaches to objectives demonstrating a complete understanding and application of engineering principles, concepts, and practices:

  • 65% -Support Engineering teams working on propulsion system development, and production program tasks/problem resolution, etc. Coordinate and drive engineering work; manage technical progress, risk, schedule, and cost as needed.

  • 15% - Monitor technical progress and interface with Program Management, Aerojet Rocketdyne customers, and other Aerojet Rocketdyne functional organizations to understand and develop resolution to program technical issues.

  • 10% - Provide technical consultation to Program Management and Business Development organizations for business development activities such as writing white papers or preparing and presenting technical briefings to customers.

  • 5% - Support the technical lead on proposals to government customers or prime contractors for propulsion development or technology programs.

  • 5% - Provide inputs to written and verbal status reports to Engineering lead, Aerojet Rocketdyne Management, and provide input and leadership at product team meetings.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field plus at least five (5) years' experience (Senior) or nine (9) years of experience for Specialist level.

  • Rocket propulsion systems experience is highly desired. Design and project management (mechanical and fluid handling systems/components) required.

  • CAD knowledge/experience is needed. May require the use of engineering test equipment, CAD, and/or various computer systems.

  • MS Project skills developing schedules and Earned Value Measurement Systems (EVMS) experience are a plus. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software is necessary.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to operate effectively in a team environment are required.

Additional requirements:

  • Understanding and use of analytical, design or process procedures pertinent to rocket systems andcomponent advanced development.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, develop planning and procedures for assembly and test.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; effective presentation and report writing skills.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:

100,000 - 147,333 per year
