Aerojet Rocketdyne anticipates a need for an Engineer to join our Product and Component Engineering department in Redmond, WA (Seattle area).

You will join a team working on the development, fabrication, and test of propulsion systems for spacecraft and defense applications. The engineer provides technical oversight and project leadership for in-house and supplier-based valve products. Valve products include a broad range of liquid and gaseous propellant control components. This position reports to the Valve & Actuator Project and Component Engineering Manager and is assigned to propulsion system Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Under general direction and guidance, the Engineer determines approaches to objectives demonstrating a technical understanding and application of engineering principles, concepts, and practices.

25% - Development and fabrication support of rocket engine valves. Applies engineering and scientific concepts to challenges ranging from preliminary ideas through product life cycle.

25% - Communication with external suppliers ensuring requirements are achieved on time and within budget.

20% - Collaboration with other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to provide coordination of technical, schedule and cost solutions to team objectives.

20% - Analyzes and verifies valve & actuator design and performance for adequacy and reliability. Supports investigation and resolution of hardware and process anomalies and issues identified by preventative action/corrective action boards or safety initiative activities.

10% - Develops trade studies, design concepts, systems integration and component-level test plans.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field plus two (2) years of experience in design and project management of mechanical and fluid handling systems and components required.

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Requires general engineering/science background.

  • Understanding and use of analytical, design or process procedures pertinent to Rocket engine valve and actuator advanced development.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, develop planning and procedures for assembly and test.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; effective presentation and report writing skills.

  • Project skills in developing MS Project scheduling and Earned Value Measurement Systems is a plus. May require the use of engineering test equipment, CAD, and/or various computer systems.

  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated leadership skills are required.

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:

69,500 - 102,166 per year
