Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
10% - Authoring and/or assisting test engineers in the development of test plans and procedures.
50% - Participating in booster build and integration, pre-launch parachute packing and rigging, pneumatics and hydraulic system setup, system level integration & testing, data review, troubleshooting and corrective action.
15% - Training in both company processes, launch vehicle systems and related test engineering tasks.
15% - Assisting in aircraft integration and launch operations.
10% - Launch support equipment maintenance and upkeep.
(Note: Estimated travel time per year is approximately 15%.)
Requirements
Requires an Associate's technical degree and 3 years related experience or the equivalent of education and experience in aerospace, trade school diploma, military experience or similar technical operations.
Must have a current ( active within 2 years ) U.S. Security Clearance at the secret level with COMSEC (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Required flight duty .Must be able to obtain an FAA Class III (or higher) medical certificate (this is a condition of employment). Must be able to meet USAF Aerospace Physiological standards, satisfactorily complete the associated training, and willing to perform launch duties aboard USAF aircraft.
Additional Requirements and Qualifications:
Must be comfortable working independently or within a team environment.
Must satisfactorily complete safety training for handling, testing, and installation of explosive devices. Environmental testing and/or instrumentation experience is a plus.
Must be willing and able to travel inside and outside of the continental U.S.
Must have experience or possess a working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Must be able to operate basic electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, etc.
Must be capable of learning the operation and maintenance of specialized support and launch equipment used for system level operations and troubleshooting.
Must be able to complete an ESD training class and practice prevention methods.
Must possess basic computer skills and familiar with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Working knowledge of CREO a plus.
Must be willing to work occasional overtime and weekends to meet critical schedule dates.
Highly Desired Qualifications:
Experience with solid propellant rocket motors is desirable. Excellent mechanical skills and experience reading and following complex technical drawings, procedures, and checklists is a must.
Previous military or civilian experience as an FAA certified Airframe and Power Plant mechanic is highly desirable.
Experience coordinating and participating in heavy lift operations and rigging involving bridge and mobile cranes.
Experience packing parachutes and rigging heavy air drop loads is desired.
Experience with airfield operations is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of related experience preferred.
Additional Considered Qualifications:
Experienced with RF networks.
Experience in PCM based telemetry systems.
Familiarity with telemetry systems used for collection of launch vehicle data during testing.
Familiarity with telemetry systems consisting of encoders, transmitters, encryptors, and decommutators.
Ability to implement telemetry PCM encoder and decommutator databases for telemetry systems.
Familiarity with data post-processing using tools developed in C/C++.
Familiarity with software programming in C/C++ and scripting languages.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions). There may be a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection.
Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position expected at times to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
