We have an immediate opening for a Specialist, Structural Analysis Engineer to join our Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) Coleman Aerospace sector in Orlando, FL.

AR Coleman Aerospace produces complex single, two, and three stage launch vehicles used to support ballistic missile defense testing.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Working under limited general direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining methods and approaches, performs structural analysis as part of a team to provide design guidance and verify product designs to meet structural, thermal and performance requirements.

60% - Perform structural dynamic analysesof complex missile systems and launch equipmentutilizing classic hand calculation methods andboth linear and non-linearfinite element models. Conduct static and dynamic structural analysesof primary missile structures and ancillary equipment that are subject to ground handling loads and inflight environments. Providetechnical Subject Matter Expertise (SME)support to structural dynamics testing activities (vibration, shock, acoustic etc.) and assess measured data against requirements. Analyzelaunch vehiclemission flightdynamic response datato define dynamic environments and for structural health monitoring. Correlate analysis models and test results. Provide assessment of the products ability to satisfy internal structural requirements as well as those flowed by the customer.

20% - Report status and results of analysis tasks at team meetings, design and program reviews.

20% - Prepare technical reports documenting all analysis activities.

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an appropriate discipline and 9 years of directly related experience

  • Solving complex structural analysis problems across the target launch vehicle organization by providing subject matter expertise to resolve our most challenging problems that can include the following topics; stress analysis, loads analysis, vibration and shock analysis, environments derivation, flight data reduction, and fracture mechanics.

  • Demonstrated experience in performing linear and non-linear structural analyses supporting design, development and production qualification is required.

  • Interfacing with technical leaders, both at company and customer levels, on a broad array of topics to implement analysis methods, requirements, and policy that meet performance and schedule requirements.

  • Take lead responsibility on project(s); may plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant projects coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects.

  • High-judgement; ability to generate innovative solutions and understand the balance between engineering judgment versus analysis rigor and when each is appropriate.

  • May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Desired:

  • Experience with analysis tools: FEMAP, NASTRAN, ANSYS, CREO Simulate, etc.

  • Development of software tools (Excel, Matlab, Python, etc) to support the detailed analysis and optimization of aerospace structures

  • Identification of opportunities for analysis efficiency improvements

  • Experience with composites and bonded joints

  • Structural optimization using standard industry codes

  • Experience in non-conforming material review of root cause / corrective action and disposition instructions

  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineeringor an appropriate discipline

  • Experience with White Belt training, lean manufacturing, and/or 6-sigma practices

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1540 / SMC-S-016, or other launch vehicle test requirements document, and MIL-STD-810.

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
