We are seeking a Environmental Health and Safety Engineer for our West Palm Beach location.

The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer is responsible for implementing the Company’s environmental health and safety (EH&S) programs to ensure compliance with applicable safety and environmental regulations as well as requirements of the Department of Defense. This position involves investigating accidents, analyzing causes and recommending changes in procedures, practices, and methods to prevent recurrences.

This position will work under limited supervision. It requires technical expertise in an EH&S discipline. Solves moderate technical problems which often require the use of ingenuity and creativity.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

30% - Works with site supervisors and employees in applying occupational health, facility safety, ergonomics, emergency preparedness, and environmental program management requirements. Activities are performed in accordance with organization and program standards and procedures to achieve compliance with Federal, State, local and internal requirements.

30% - Conducts area inspections and audits to ensure compliance with regulatory and company policies in regard to safety, health, and environmental compliance.

20% - Performs health and safety evaluations, investigations and methodologies for continual improvement and prevention of employee injuries/illnesses and hardware/process improvements throughout the site.

10% - Plans, develops, directs and assesses programs to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment, with emphasis on facility safety programs and associated monitoring.

10% - Evaluates existing or emergent risk management control technologies and provides information, regulatory interpretation, and technical expertise to management and employees.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and two (2) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal skills are needed. You must have the ability to resolve conflict using flexibility, adaptability, problem solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills when working with internal & external customers expected. Initiative & ability to perform work assignments with minimal direction in a team environment. Full understanding of OSHA General Industry Safety and Health standards, as well as Federal, state and local environmental regulations is required.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
