We are seeking experienced Machinists to perform CNC Machining functions, working to tight tolerances and fabricating specialty metal products in a lean manufacturing industrial machining environment at Aerojet Ordnance Tennessee in Jonesborough Tennessee . Position will report to the Manufacturing Operations Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

Fabrication of precision-machined parts while maintaining a safe work environment, meeting quality requirements, customer specifications and shipment schedules.

  • Set-up and Operation of various machinery and shop equipment with little or no supervision.

  • Operation of CNC lathes in manual, semi-automatic and automatic modes

  • Operation of conventional Engine lathes

  • Operation of inspection equipment

  • Inspection of products both in process and post process

  • Gathering and entering SPC data per Customer requirements

  • Transporting materials to and from operation as required

  • Loading and unloading parts/blanks

  • Performing machine offsets

  • Replacing broken or worn tooling as required

  • Producing quality products to Customer specifications

  • Maintaining count and traceability of parts including tagging rejected parts

  • Maintaining water levels in chip drums and replacing chip drums

  • Performing rework of parts when necessary

  • Performing routine daily minor preventative maintenance (oil levels, grease, filter changes, etc.)

  • Completing all required paperwork

  • Maintaining a clean and neat work space

  • Communicating daily process, machine, product status or other relevant manufacturing information to employee(s) and/or supervisor(s) who report to work on the next shift.

  • Reporting abnormalities related to production, maintenance, safety or quality to supervisor

  • Performing duties in other areas of the facility as necessitated by production requirements

  • Troubleshooting processes and report feedback to supervisor; identify and escalate out-of-control processes

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred and at least one (1) year of experience as a CNC machinist (or an equivalent combination of education/experience).

  • Associate’s degree in related field and one (1) year of experience as a CNC Machinist in an industrial/manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Must possess working knowledge and be able to perform in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.

  • Must be able to work 10 hours plus per shift, work any shift (1st, 2nd or 3rd), work overtime and on weekends as required.

  • Requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees.

  • This is a non-smoking facility in accordance with the Tennessee Non-Smoker Protection Act.

Requires U.S. Citizenship or status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner.While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
