Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking to fill Intern – Systems Engineering roles for Summer 2023 at its Huntsville location .

Internships will start in approximately May/June and end in August/September.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

After orientation and training, intern will focus on using Model-based Systems Engineering methods and tools to increase efficiencies in Systems Engineering and accelerate workforce digital transformation. Focus areas could include the following: system architecture modeling, modeling of system requirements and validation, integration of heterogeneous model and simulation data to create a “digital thread,” and deriving semantic information models (e.g., ontology). This position will support senior engineering staff and gain experience and familiarization with Aerojet Rocketdyne programs and products.

Projects may focus on the development of reusable models of rocket motor systems, as well as the development of exemplary model artifacts. Tasks will vary but may include trading off modeling methods and styles, presenting case studies to modeling practitioners, and exercising advanced modeling and data integration techniques.

Requirements

Candidate must be currently enrolled in a B.S. degree program in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics (or similar major) OR enrolled in an advanced degree program in related major, and returning to school upon completion of the assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

3.5 GPA or above

Courses in Systems Engineering

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Experience with system architecture modeling tools (e.g. Cameo, Rhapsody, etc.)

Experience with SysML

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Self-starter with the ability to work with little direction

Leadership & teamwork skills

Strong work ethic and drive to succeed

Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
