Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Aerothermal & Fluids Engineer for our Huntsville, AL location. In this role, you will perform aerothermal and fluids analysis of solid rocket motors to verify that product designs meet performance and design requirements.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
The successful applicant works with minimal direction to provide solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems that require the regular use of creativity and innovation, Utilizes judgment within broadly defined policies and practices, Works on complex projects that require an in depth evaluation of variable factors, and Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
70% - Perform aerothermal and fluids modelling and analysis of Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) hardware components. Analysis is performed using in-house and non-proprietary Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), heat transfer, and thermal ablation analysis tools such as Fluent and CFD++, various meshing tools, and classic aerothermal tools such as ACE, gasket, and CMA. Thermal analysis includes temperature prediction and ablation assessment of SRM insulators and other hardware components. Duties include test support for pre and post-test analysis of static fired motors for model validation.Support programs across the enterprise for complex analyses requiring advanced aerothermodynamic and fluid dynamic tools when programs have difficult problems that need to be resolved in a timely manner. Apply specific expertise and knowledge to provide technical solutions to complex, difficult problems that do not lend themselves to be solved by 1-D or other simplified techniques. Formulate an approach for such problems so that they can be understood and worked upon by more junior staff. Design and support verification tests of propulsion systems and components. Develop test systems and strategies, specify instrumentation and analyze test results.Contribute to the development of new practices, techniques, and standards. Perform as an emerging authority and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the general and technical aspects of the job and its practical application to complex problems and situations.
20% - Produce CFD and thermal analysis reports and test reports. Make presentation of analysis results to both internal and external customers. Provide technical guidance to junior analysts.
10% - Support verification tests of propulsion systems and components.
Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree and at least two (2) years of directly related experience. Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in team leadership is required.
Candidate must be proficient in using thermal analysis tools in thermal ablation analysis of solid rocket propulsion.
Requires technical expertise in the advertised discipline and full knowledge of related disciplines.
Guides the successful completion of major projects in the department and may function as a project team leader.
Knowledge and experience with aerospace product development efforts a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is expected.
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
