Aerojet Rocketdyne has an opportunity for a HVAC Maintenance Mechanic 2 at our growing site near Culpeper, in rural Orange County, Virginia , a 1+ hour drive from Washington DC. This position will generally work the second shift 2:30 PM - 12:00 AM midnigh) with shift differential, but must be available to work other shifts, weekends, holidays and be on call as required.

This position may be filled at this level or one level higher.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic will work under limited general supervision to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance using manufacturer publications, blueprints, schematics and locally generated instructions. Must be familiar with OSHA and NEC standards. Will be required to follow work procedures, work on facilities, and production equipment, as well as perform general maintenance.

  • 70% - HVAC Maintenance - Work with, troubleshoot and repair plant HVAC equipment. Perform Preventive Maintenance on equipment such as HVAC units, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, etc.

  • 20% - Installation of new equipment .

  • 10% - 6S general shop upkeep, cleaning, or organizing.

Requirements

High school diploma (or equivalence) plus at least five (5) years maintenance exp with 2 years HVAC experience .

Strongly Desired Background (Please include on your resume):

  • EPA Section 608 HVAC Certification (Type 1, Type 2 or Universal) strongly desired

  • Virginia HVAC Journeyman, Master or Contractor License a plus

  • North American Technical Excellence (NATE) certification or ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers) certification desirable.

  • Strong Mechanical experience/training in one of the following: HVAC installation, HVAC troubleshooting and repair, general mechanic background.

  • Training from a trade school is a plus.

  • Proficient computer skills (such as MS Word and Excel, including use of formulas) strongly desired.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be very safety and environmentally conscious.

  • Generally will work second shift (1430-2400), but must be available to work any shift, weekends, holidays and be on call as required.

Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person . Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors is necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
