We seek a Senior Manager for a full-time position in the Defense BU Engineering – Liquid DACS Propulsion - Pressure Fed Systems and Thruster Mechanical Design discipline in Los Angeles, California.

This position is responsible for support to Aerojet Rocketdyne’s (AR) growing Mechanical Design Engineering organization and reports to the Sr Director, Defense BU Design and Analysis. This position performs a variety of mechanical design engineering managerial tasks on fast-paced Liquid DACS Propulsion, Cold Gas Propulsion, and Advanced Propulsion development and production programs. The successful candidate will operate from the Canoga Park (Los Angeles) office.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)

25% - Drive leadership and technical support into the execution of liquid propulsion design work scope across the enterprise. Ensure work is performed with process rigor and a high standard of quality. Work recovery plans and implement corrective/preventative actions as necessary within the Pressure Fed Systems and Thruster design organization.

20% - Ensure that the engineering design technical capabilities, skill-sets, and resources are developed and maintained at a healthy level and are aligned with enterprise demand. Ensure that resources are deployed to the programs meeting business needs in a timely manner.

15% - Drive technical leadership in the liquid propulsion systems design organization. Set the department vision, identify gaps, and lead the organization to excellence by modeling a commitment to continuous improvement using the Aerojet Rocketdyne Business Operating System (ARBOS).

10% - Collaborate with the Design Engineering Leadership Team and Program Management Organization in addressing both strategic and tactical matters of concern.

10% - Provide mentorship, coaching, and other resources necessary to foster employee development within our engineering design organization.

10% - Provide leadeship for enteprise special projects. Plan, coordinate and execute continuous improvement programs that support the engineering oganization.

5% - Work within the overhead budget requirements for the liquid propulsion systems design department. Track and meet all financial goals.

5% - Lead by example in demonstrating commitment to the Aerojet Rocketdyne Rocket values.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or related engineering/scientific discipline and 14 years of design related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (US Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Additional Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be a self-starter and pro-active mentor to motivate employees to successfully meet program goals and perform effective conflict resolution as required.

  • Must have strong leadership and demonstrated technical problem solving skills.

  • Previous hands-on design experience, knowledge of mechanical systems solid propulsion systems are strongly preferred.

  • A demonstrated understanding of DoD/NASA engineering processes, materials, analysis and manufacturing is required.

  • Must possess strong technical writing and effective presentation skills.

  • Experience with Liquid Propulsion, Cold Gas Propulsion, Advanced Propulsion Systems is a plus.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.

Pay range for this position:

144,500 - 212,166 per year
